San Diego Historic Landmark No. 65
__________

Alice Lee House #3, 1912
3407 Albatross St, San Diego, CA (Banker's Hill)
Irging J Gill
__________

The homes on Seventh Street, further up the hill from these houses, showcase the architect's early career with Hebbard. These five homes on Albatross highlight Gill's development to what we now think of quintessential Gill. Alice Lee, who was an early San Diego, female real estate developer, commissioned Gill to create this mini, master-planned development.

The house at 3367 is considered to be one of Gill's best. The assymetrically-balanced design shows Gill's confidence. Thin-wall construction was used for the house at 3407, to maximize interior space. The rental cottage on the next block is perfectly balanced with a projecting arched entry. All the homes are mostly stripped bare of exterior embellishments, marking his leadership in the pre-Modernist movement.
