As a photographer in Austin Texas I suppose I need to be pretty versatile. On any given day I may end up photographing a kitchen for a local builder in the morning and a Family or student for portrait later in the day. I enjoy it all. I like making people places & things look their very best.
This week I had the opportunity to photograph a home for a local couple that are putting their house on the market. Karen is an artist & Jim is an architect . Between the two of them they have a built a beautiful home. While architectural photography can be quite technically challenging & time consuming, I love projects like these because I love looking at the the beautiful images of a beautiful space & seeing the happy smiles of my clients.

Elvis Presley
real estate license

There are many reasons to believe that Elvis Presley is dead. When the only arguments to believe otherwise come from crazed fans and supermarket tabloids, it is easy to dismiss the possibility that the King is still among us. However, the circumstances surrounding Elvis's alleged death are quite mysterious and beg closer attention. As it turns out, there are many concrete reasons to believe that the King is still alive.

The Gravesite.

For Starters, Elvis's name is spelled wrong on his headstone. Elvis's full name is Elvis Aron Presley, but on his grave his middle name is spelled incorrectly with two a's. His father would not have let this happen. When Elvis was born, his name was misspelled on his birth certificate, and his father went to great lengths to get the error corrected. The unique spelling of Elvis's name was important to the Presley family.

Elvis's current "resting place" is in between his father and his grandmother and not next to his mother where he had adamantly requested. It is doubtful that the people close to him would allow these things to happen. Elvis is a superstitious man - enough so that he wouldn't tempt fate by putting his real name on a tombstone, or violate the ground next to his mother until he was ready to be placed there for good.

Death Certificate.

Elvis was very vain, and he was embarrassed about his recent weight gain - an astonishing 50 pounds in the month before his so-called death. Even though he weighed about 250 pounds at the time of his "death," his death certificate lists him at a spry 170 pounds. The original death certificate disappeared, and the current death certificate is dated two months after his alleged death.

The Wax Body Theory.

This argument is very convincing when the facts are considered. Elvis's coffin required several pall bearers because it weighed 900 pounds. Attendants of the funeral reported that the air around the coffin was rather cool. It is suspected that the coffin contained an air conditioning unit to keep a wax body cool - a wax body that was a replica of the King designed to fool funeral-goers. And how did the Presley family get a 900 pound, custom made coffin ready for a funeral that was held on the day after his death? It takes a lot of time to build such an elaborate coffin.
And why have the funeral so quickly? Some speculate that the immediacy was intended to make it as difficult as possible for the people who were Elvis's biggest fans (heads of fan clubs, etc.) to attend the proceedings. It could be a concern that they might recognize the flaws in the wax replica.
Elvis was an 8th degree black belt whose hands were rough with calluses, yet the body in the coffin had hands that were soft and pudgy. The body in the coffin had a pug nose and arched eyebrows (unlike Elvis) and most importantly, one of the sideburns on the "corpse" was loose and falling off. A hairdresser later reported gluing the sideburn back on the body.

Unusual Behavior.

Two hours after Elvis's death was announced publicly, a man who reportedly looked remarkably like Elvis purchased a ticket for Buenos Aeries, paid in cash, and used the name John Burrows: the same name Elvis had used as an alias several times before.
Elvis had a few books that were considered to be his most prized possessions. He had a bible, several pharmaceutical books, books on death, and most importantly Chiro's Book of Numbers and The Autobiography of Yogi which I will explain more about later. After Elvis's death was announced, these books disappeared and were never recovered.
In the weeks preceding his alleged death, Elvis's actions were not those of a man who was about to embark on an extensive US tour. He ordered no new suits despite having gained 50 pounds since his last tour, and he bid "adios" at his last show in Hawaii. He had never done this before. Adios, like the French adieu, has the significance of being a final good-bye as opposed to an "I'll be seeing you on my next tour" kind of good-bye.

Others were intrigued by the King's decision to sign a lucrative TV deal with NBC that would cover the tour. It was unprecedented for a network to pay such a large amount up front, in cash, for such a deal. Many wonder why Elvis even agreed to the deal since his vanity discouraged him from making public appearances due to his obesity.
RCA showed uncanny (and unbelievable) foresight by mass producing millions of Elvis's current and previous recordings and merchandise. This is standard practice for an act that is about to go on tour, but the numbers in this case were beyond reasonable expectations. The announcement of Elvis's death caused record sales to skyrocket.
Elvis did other unusual things that created suspicion. First, he fired several employees that he had relied upon for a long time. Also, two days before his alleged death, Elvis telephoned a friend of his named Miss Foster. He told her that he wasn't planning on going on the upcoming tour. She asked him if he had canceled it, and he said that he had not. When she asked if he was ill, he said that he was fine, and that she should not ask any more questions or tell anyone anything, and that she should not believe anything she read. He told her that his troubles would all soon be over, and that he would call her in a few weeks. The author of Elvis Where Are You? writes that Miss Foster took a polygraph test regarding this story, and that she was not lying.

The day after Elvis's alleged death, a woman named Lucy De Barbon, a former lover of Elvis, received a single rose in the mail. The card indicated that the flower was from "El Lancelot." This had been her pet name for Elvis, and it was a name that no one else knew. Flowers can't be sent from beyond the grave. This was Elvis's way of letting her know that he was not dead, even though he didn't want to be found.

Chiro's Book of Numbers.

Elvis had a fascination with numerology - an interest he fed by reading Chiro's Book of Numbers. The theory that the King orchestrated his death is further supported when considering the significance of the date of his alleged death. The date in question is August 16,1977. By adding the numbers in the date, 8, 16, and 1977, you get 2001. This is the title of Elvis' favorite movie in which the hero plans his immortality in the bathroom. Elvis spent a considerable amount of time doing the same: planning his afterlife on the john. Elvis spent so much time in the bathroom that he had his toilet converted into a reclining comfy chair. Coincidentally, the bathroom is also where Elvis's body was reportedly found.

Given Elvis's religious affiliation (Christianity), he had a fascination with things that come in threes i.e. father, son, and holy ghost. The sum of the digits from his favorite film (2+0+0+1) is three. Let's consider the triad of the repetition of the number 24. 2001 (favorite film) less 1977 (year of death) is 24. The two numbers from the day of death (8/16) when added up equal 24. The sum of the digits in the year of death (1+9+7+7) also equals 24. That is 3 occurrences of the number 24 which is divisible by 3, and when divided by three the result, 8 has a perfect cubed root (2x2x2=8).
Elvis loved numerology, and when you consider the numeric significance of the date of his alleged death, it is clear that if indeed he did plan to fake his death, he could not have chosen a better date.

Motive.

Elvis had many reasons to fake his death. Elvis's life was in danger. He had recently lost ,000,000 in an airplane/real estate deal with a California based organization called the "Fraternity" that had links to the Mafia. It is speculated that he corroborated with the government to expose the organized crime ring in exchange for protection - perhaps in the form of a new life and identity compliments of the witness relocation program.

In addition, Elvis was a prisoner of his own fame. He had many other reasons to leave his life behind. Because of his incredible popularity, he was the recipient of several death threats, and he was concerned about the safety of his wife and daughter. Sometimes when he wanted to leave Graceland, he would send out look-alikes to distract would be followers. Elvis was also known to ride in the trunk of someone else's car to avoid detection. Once, when he fell ill in Las Vegas, he couldn't get proper medical attention because the hospital was overwhelmed by fans.
At the time of his alleged death, Elvis was nearing the end of his career. He was 42, his hair was graying, he was grossly overweight, and his voice was starting to weaken. He was going down hill, and he was too proud to go out with a whimper. He would never want his fans to see him in such an unhealthy condition.

Elvis had shown a fascination with death on several occasions. In the days leading up to his alleged death he was reported to have visited funeral homes at odd hours of the night with close friends. Was he doing research? Elvis once faked his death by setting up an elaborate shooting in which a would be killer fired blanks at Elvis who had a blood pack which he discharged. It was Elvis's intention to see how the people closest to him would react to his death. Perhaps what he learned convinced him to do it for real.

Finally, one of Elvis' favorite books is the spiritual Autobiography of Yogi. One of the central themes of this book is the relinquishing of one's wealth and earthly possessions to achieve spiritual oneness. Elvis could do this, as well as address his other concerns of sanity and safety by faking his death and living in exile.

Means.

Elvis had the means to fake his own death. He is accused of destroying himself with drugs. In reality, Elvis was a pharmaceutical expert. He took a lot of drugs, but he knew what he was doing and was extremely careful. He knew what drugs he could self-administer to create a deathlike state. Further, Elvis's experience with the martial arts was such that he could slow his heart rate and breathing in order to feign death.

Elvis's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had once created a new identity for himself. He came to this county as an illegal immigrant from Holland, but through various connections managed to create an elaborate identity complete with a passport, birth certificate, drivers license, and social security number. He would have known how to give Elvis a second life.

In addition to Elvis's ties to the government through his testimony against the Fraternity, Elvis was known to interact with the President of the United States. He was reported in government documents to use the name John Burrows as an alias when he wanted to travel. Some people believe that Elvis worked for the government as a drug agent. He did, after all have extensive contact with many people in the music business who, as we know, tend to dabble in illegal substances. (Remember Payola?.. ) And, of course, we must allow that Elvis's connections to the government gave him access to the Witness Relocation Program. If they can turn the Simpsons into the Thompsons, they can relocate anybody.

No New Music, Orion?

Many believe that Elvis couldn't have given up performing cold turkey. I imagine that after a while the desire to perform grew once he started his life in exile. The story of Orion supports the theory that Elvis attempted an incognito comeback.

Shortly after Elvis's death, a masked singer by the name of Orion emerged on the scene. He was big like Elvis, and he sang just like Elvis. Because of the mask, no one could tell his true identity. One fan described seeing Orion from near the stage. She claims that Orion left the stage between songs, and when he appeared moments later the sweat was gone from his armpits and back and she thought that his costume looked slightly different. After the song he left the stage, and the original Orion returned.

Another fan described how she rushed into a tour bus at an Orion show only to see two Orions in the back of the bus. She claimed that one ducked into the bathroom before she could get a good look at him, but he appeared to look like Elvis Presley.

What's even more remarkable is the fictional story called Orion that was written by Gail Brewer-Georgio about a legendary performer who had several identities and wanted to fake his death. The story was written and submitted to the William Morris Agency for publication consideration after Elvis's death and before the real Orion ever performed. As it turns out, there are many ways in which the real Orion mimicked the events as described in the book. For example, the performers' managers had the same name. Also, without knowing it, Brewer-Georgio wrote of events in Orion that had actually taken place in Elvis Presley's life. It was a case of life imitating art.

Picking up the Pieces.

In 1981, 20/20 did an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged death of Elvis Presley. The investigative report was very convincing. Oddly enough, within two weeks of the report, the singer, Orion, disappeared and was never heard from again. The book, Orion disappeared from shelves across the country. It had been recalled by the publisher which was associated with the William Morris Agency. Incidentally, the William Morris Agency is the same agency that represented Elvis Presley.
I even tried to order a copy of the book, but was unable to. The woman at the book store said she couldn't tell me why.......

It seems that Elvis Presley is worth more dead than alive. By faking his death and relocating with a new identity, he is safe from his fans and the Fraternity, the government can make a solid case against the organized crime ring, and RCA, Elvis's family, and Elvis's management can all reap immense financial benefits from the attention.

That is... except for one benefit. No one has collected on his life insurance policy.

Chicago Harness Maywood Park
real estate license
Located along busy North Avenue between First and Fifth Avenues, less than 10 miles west of Chicago's bustling downtown area and only minutes away from O'Hare airport, Maywood Park can trace its harness racing roots back to a time when the racetrack was surrounded only by forest preserves and farm land.

Maywood Park was originally the home of Cook County Fairgrounds, where in 1932 and during Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition years of 1933 and 1934, non-wagering harness racing purse programs were held both in the afternoon and evening under the lights during the Great Depression Era.

The owner of the Maywood Park real estate was Arthur T. Galt, Sr., born in Chicago in 1876. A lawyer, real estate developer and amateur sulky driver, Mr. Galt established the plant's first racetrack when Maywood Park was issued Illinois' first harness racing license in 1946.

Receiving his Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University and his law degree from Northwestern University in 1901, Mr. Galt opened a law office in Chicago and soon thereafter began investing in real estate in the Chicago area and Florida.

Mr. Galt lived into his 93rd year, passing in 1968, while Maywood Park rose to become one of the premier half-mile standardbred racetracks in North America.

I love my job. I spend my days (and many evenings) working to make beautiful people, places & things look their very best.
One of my recent clients specializes in kitchen & bath remodeling, so I have spent quite a few hours this past month photographing inside peoples homes. I have had the opportunity to meet some great people in my attempt to capture images of some wonderful craftsmanship. The owner of this particular home shares her kitchen with a couple of dogs and fine looking cat. You can see where they are served their dinner next to the stools at the pass through bar.

Nanette Kaula was the Jewish daughter of Court Agent Raphael Kaula. In 1838 she married a Hamburg banker whos firm was granted a real estate license in Munich. She died childless in 1876.

Of all the paintings in the gallery, Nanette's is the only one where she is dressed in a simple outfit, as "the beautiful Jewess". She wears a purple and black velvet dress, adorned only with the golden arrow in her hair and broach.

This portrait was completed by Joseph Stieler in 1829 when Nanette was 17.

*After testing on Friday, I went to help Ms. Nancy in the library. The library's been down for so long for renovating that I had forgotten we actually had one until Andy told me go there on Friday. Some kids were arranging books into their proper shelves on the other side of the room when I arrived. Anthony tried to give me some attitude and trouble but I diffused it before it got out of hand.

Mr. P was giving directions out when I got there, but we found some time to lean against the counter and talk for a bit. When the students aren't around, we call each other by our first names, like how cops do: Jared and Long. Jared's one of the few substitute teachers that I actually respect and have a lot of admiration for (which says a lot considering how I feel about some of the other subs in the district).

"How you doing Mr. P?" I said.
"Good. Yourself?" Jared said. He reached out and shook my hand.
"I'm alright. They keeping you busy?" I said.
"I'd say about three days a week. But three days a week is all I really need," Jared said.
"Yeah. I know what you mean."
"What about you?"
"About the same. I need to find something to do during the summer though. School's going to end at the end of May."
"Yeah. I'm actually planning on getting my real estate license soon."
"Tough market these days?"
"It's what you make of it. What are you planning to do?"
"I'm hoping to get back to school for a masters in counseling maybe. I just talked to Ms. Thomas and she just graduated."
"That's something I'd like to do too. But I don't know. I've got two kids and wife to support now. And the time it would take me...I don't know. I'd like to be a counselor someday. It's just...very difficult to get back into."
"Yeah. Ms. Thomas told me it took her six years. I'm just glad I don't have those kinds of....responsibilities."

"Well, it's almost noon, they've had me here since eight so I'm going on my break," Jared said.
"Sure thing. I'll hold it down here for a little longer but it seems like they'll be wrapping up soon."

I waved goodbye and Jared left. I saw him one time off campus. It was at Ikea. I was with my mom and sister and he was there on his own looking through the living space demos that area always set up everywhere. He was looking at a drawer and shelf in the children's section. I didn't' say hi or wave or anything. I rarely do when I'm out unless someone comes up to me first. I saw him at a distance. He open the pink closet door, took a look inside, pulled open the shelves, pushed them back. He did all of this very reluctantly. I took the long way and walked past him. "Do you want some cinnabons?" I asked my mom. "I'm too old for sweets," she said.

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was shot and killed at the campus during the hunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects shortly before a second officer was critically injured in a shootout with the duo.

The officer has not been identified by authorities, but early reports identified the MIT officer as Sean Collier, 26.

No arrests had been made, and a manhunt was on for the shooter.

Collier was critically injured in an early morning shootout Friday with the two suspects in the marathon bombings.

He was responding to report of a disturbance Thursday night when he was shot multiple times, according to a statement from the Middlesex district attorney’s office and Cambridge police.

According to CBS News, the suspects ambushed him after robbing a 7-Eleven, assuming he had been given their description.

He was shot and killed in his cruiser, gun holstered. CBS Boston reported he never confronted the subject.

It said there were no other victims.

Collier was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.

Collier's family said he had always wanted to be an officer.

'Our only solace is that Sean died bravely doing what he committed his life to, serving and protecting others,' the family said in a statement reported by WBZ-TV. 'We are thankful for the outpouring of support and condolences offered by so many people.'

Collier worked at the Somerville Police Department as an information technology employee prior to joining MIT's campus police force.

Lt. William Rymill, of the Somerville Police, told The Huffington Post Collier had 'a heart of gold.'

'He is going to be greatly, sorely missed,' Rymill said. 'He was an all-around great person.'

In two months he likely would've fulfilled his lifelong dream. He recently received high marks on a civil service exam and was a likely candidate to join the Somerville police department this summer, the Boston Globe reported.

'Anybody could relate to him. Sean could talk to anybody,' said Somerville police Lt. William Rymill. 'The girls here in dispatch haven’t stopped crying.'

His roommate, who declined to give his name to reporters, trained with Collier at the academy and described his fallen friend as too brave.

'He was the guy who went to help,' Collier's roommate said. 'The best guy got shot down by the biggest scumbags.'

Collier was further described as a warm man with a love of camping and country music.
On Twitter, people who claimed to have known Collier mourned him as a hero.

'I knew him,' wrote Bruce Mendelsohn, founder of The Hired Pen. 'He was always kind, friendly, and helpful. Another senseless tragedy.'

'This kid's dream was to be a police officer,' wrote Eric V. Alexander. 'That's all he talked about the whole ride up. He died doing what he loved. RIP Sean Collier.'

MIT said on its website right after the shooting that police were sweeping the campus in Cambridge and urged people to remain indoors until further notice.

People were urged to stay away from the Stata Building, a mixed use building with faculty offices, classrooms and a common area.

Hours later, MIT said the campus was clear.

Suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaey and younger brother Dzhokhar then stole a Mercedes-Benz with the driver inside and fled the scene.

They critically wounded another officer during a shootout in Watertown.

Richard Donohue, 33, a three-year-veteran of the department, was last reported to be in surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Tamerlan was critically injured in the gunfire exchange and died at Beth Israel Hospital.

Donohue graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 2002, the Roanoke Times reported.

Real estate agent Jake Copty, who had been a cadet with Donohue, described him as a 'super nice guy' with a good sense of humor.

'We had a lot of fun,' he said. 'The only rule we didn't break was the honor code.'

Donohue also served in the Navy.

'It's a terrible thing,' Copty said. 'We're hoping that he recovers.'

Copty said that he understood Donohue had left surgery but no officials statements have been made regarding his condition.

If I had a dollar for every time I met someone who did not have a cell phone and/or a Facebook account, I would have a grand total of zero dollars. Living in the United States obviously plays a large role in this. This “era of the internet,” so to speak, has been used in many innovations and discoveries. Unfortunately, not all those uses have been for the good of humanity.

A prime example of this is the Steubenville rape case I wrote about a few weeks ago. In that case, the two teens that took advantage of an unconscious girl posted and distributed photos and video of the incident. It was to their own detriment, as the images were used as evidence in court, but it was also to the detriment of their victim.

The world of hurt a rape victim feels is undeniably worse when your attackers post video and pictures online, adding on to the misery.

I point to the tragedy in Boston on Monday as another example of the power technology and media hold. After the event, speculation ran rampant and photos and video began pouring in. One twitter account with the handle @Hope4Boston tweeted that two eight-year-olds had been killed in the bombing, which is not true. Another twitter account, @_BostonMarathon, posed as the organizers of the race and posted: “For every retweet we receive we will donate to #BostonMarathon victims.” That post was retweeted over 50,000 times by Monday evening, though Twitter has since disabled the account.

“Sometimes accidentally and sometimes maliciously, false information gets loose,” said Doug Gross in an article he penned for CNN. “And in the rapid-fire digital echo chamber, it does not take long to spread.”

Gross definitely understands the situation, since conflicting reports abounded in the time immediately after the bombing, and many are still circulating.

In spite of the Internet’s propensity for speculation and misinformation, the aftermath of the Boston marathon on Monday showed it is also a force for good. Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt wrote a Facebook post, which subsequently went viral. The post served to remind us of the good in the world, even when facing a tragedy like the one in Boston.

He concluded the post by saying, “So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you, and we always will.’ ”

Additional reports of heroes and positivity appeared elsewhere on the Internet as well. NBC Sports Network tweeted that there were reports of marathon runners who crossed the finish line and continued to run to Massachusetts General Hospital to donate blood. Many, and quite possibly most, of the photos and videos of the event showed at least one volunteer or first responder working to help those hurt by the blasts. Bostonians unaffected by the bombing took to the Internet to express messages of support and to offer their own homes to people who needed places to stay. Boston was hurt badly on Monday, and the nation managed to generate an incredible response thanks partly to social media.

The extent of social media’s influence is out of this world, quite literally. On Monday evening, after hearing of the bombing, Canadian astronaut and I.S.S. commander Chris Hadfield tweeted condolences, followed by a picture of Boston’s lights shining in the night with the caption “A somber night in Boston.” Thanks to our technology, even those in space are able to join the world and voice their condolences.

Those who seek to inspire terror in innocent Americans cannot control our reactions. Who is to blame is not nearly as important as acknowledging the heroics and gallantry of people when the chips are down. Whether it is an earthquake in Iran, or Haiti, or a bombing in Boston, people always find a way to be at their best when faced with those trying to do their worst, and social media is instrumental in showing this.

Realty World - Selzer Realty (716 S. Main St.) sells real estate and manages property. In the same building at the same address are Richard Dipman (Licensed Certified Social Worker) and Rosalie Anchordoguy and Colleen Donovan-Batson (nurse-midwives). We are looking northwest from the Main Street sidewalk.
A detailed 1911 map shows nothing but residences (except for the soda bottling works) along Main Street between South Street and California Street. Fortunately, as this stretch became a business district, many of the lovely old houses were converted to new uses and so preserved.

"Working and Buying" Exhibit Case
real estate license
Shown here is the "Working and Buying" exhibit case for the exhibit "A Most Thriving & Growing Place": Williamsburg Before the Restoration.

This exhibit case features postcards, books, letters, and other publications about the business scene in Williamsburg, Virginia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of Williamsburg's most successful merchants, Samuel Harris, was a prominent African-American in Williamsburg. He is featured in this exhibit case.

The following is from the main text label in the case:

The Business of Williamsburg

While Eastern State Hospital and the College remained the biggest employers, Williamsburg also hopped with new businesses, even factories. The Williamsburg Knitting Mill employed more than 100 people making men’s underwear; it survived from 1900 to 1916. The Bozarth brothers and others operated lumber mills, taking advantage of the area’s plentiful pine forests. Local farms fed the Williamsburg Canning Company, established in 1899. The city’s first bank, Peninsula Bank, opened two years earlier. Telephone service began in 1901. Retail businesses abounded, serving not just Williamsburg residents but the farmers who lived in the surrounding countryside. The stores began advertising aggressively to attract customers. The railroad’s arrival in1881 and especially the Jamestown Exposition of 1907 helped stimulate the tourist trade.

The following is from the Samuel Harris label from the case:

Samuel Harris, as seen on this list of fees paid for business licenses, was the most successful merchant in Williamsburg. He moved here in the 1870s and opened a store that became the biggest in town. His customers included both blacks and whites. He later expanded into real estate. His standing in the community led to his election to the school board in the 1880s. He died in 1904.

Harris became a prominent man among African Americans nationally. His children moved in equally prominent circles. His daughter Elizabeth married Robert Russa Moton, the Hampton Institute educator who later succeeded Booker T. Washington as president of Tuskegee Institute. His son L. J. moved to Boston, graduating from Harvard Medical School and becoming a renowned eye specialist, the first medical specialist of color in the nation.

The following is from the Strike! label in the case:

We have not yet discovered the date of this remarkable document, but it appears likely to be from the late 1910s or early 1920s, when labor unrest rocked the nation. It is notable both for the appeal of workers of color, likely women, to the community as a whole and for the existence of a labor union in Williamsburg at a relatively early date. If you know anything about this strike, please contact us.
